I've always called it trade. I thought barter had to do with business stuff only.
i refer to it as barter. sometimes trade. but trade sounds more like trading even, but i prefer to use networks :)
I remember when I was young my dad liked to barter so that's what I call it now.
I think it depends on what you want to trade. When I hear the word swap I think of used clothing. When I hear the word barter I think more along the lines of services. I guess I prefer "trade". It was the first word I used and it seems to be the middle ground.
Barter is the actual industry term for it and as it reads on your tax returns. (you do know you are legally required to pay taxes on "Barter" don't you?)
Trade is more of a "street" term and used more often. along with not paying taxes on the "trade".
Swap, exchange, and any other term just doesn't have that ring of a "deal" to it, does it?
Hi "Anon"
I'm fully aware that I have to claim taxes on my "barter deals".
I also know I shouldn't run with scissors...but thanks.

crazy_amy I grew up calling it barter too but I was told it was really only something that poor people did. That was probably true back in the old days but I see now that that's not the case. Seems it's just a different way to save here and there.
